| During the 1993
International Festival of the Theater of the Oppressed in Rio de Janeiro, police murdered
street children who were sleeping under the archways near La Candelaria Cathedral in the
middle of the night. This cold-blooded act resulted in international condemnation of the
Rio police and provoked demonstrations around the world. Spontaneous street actions
